THE CRUISING LIFE – FIFTEENTH CRUISE

Our next cruise saw us board the Celebrity Equinox on April 23rd, 2018. We booked this cruise because although it was an 11 night cruise, the ship would be in New Orleans for three days! AND it would be during the annual Jazz Festival. Jimmy Buffet was scheduled to perform on the last day and we were excited to see/listen to him and the Coral Reefers.

Our first stop was in Freeport, Bahamas. We decided to not contribute to the local economy and stayed onboard the ship for a quiet relaxing day. The next day we stopped in Key West and even though we had just recently visited there we walked around town, visited a local eatery, caught a sight-seeing shuttle and enjoyed the uniqueness of Key West.

After a day at sea, we then tied up near the riverwalk in New Orleans. This was a first-time visit for Liz and I had only been there once (briefly) before so we were excited to see what the town had to offer. We did what most tourists do – rode the street cars, walked Bourbon Street, ate Cajun Food in the French Quarter and drank a few Hurricanes at Pat O’Brien’s Bar etc. We were very disappointed to find that we would be leaving on the last day before Jimmy Buffet would be playing! However we were not the only ones onboard that were upset and a group of us voiced our concern to Captain Kate. She listened to us and contacted someone at Celebrity corporate and managed to get us a 4 hour extention inport so we could see most, if not all, of Jimmy’s performance. We were all extremely grateful and thankful for her “going to bat” for us.

Leaving New Orleans the ship set sail for Cozumel and then Costa Maya before heading back to Miami.

Below are some random pictures from the trip.
